New pictures of an old piece. One of my sculptures from my final year at college.
Nikki Wellings worked on classic sailing yachts for 12 years. Creating hand stitched leather work for such beautiful yachts as Mariquita, Merrymaid, Mariette, Lulworth and more recently the J Class yachts. Having worked on board as Bosun she has a clear understanding of how leather needs to function.

Manitou and Kelpie
Manitou had 20 blocks to be leathered
Pimp my helm
There were four winch handles to make pockets for. This is double sided and will sit over a beam like a saddlebag.
Then there are two single pockets that will be attatched to the masts.
Kelpie's boom crutch put me to the test but was very satisfying to finish.
The blocks for topmast runner jiggers certainly look better leathered but also protect the varnished cover board.
